Required Experience

EXPERIENCE VERSUS LOGGED EXPERIENCE

Giant strides off UrchinMany divers do not log dives which is a personal choice. Unfortunately where experience is critical for the provision of a service this may prove a barrier to supply. In most instances we are able to take the diver?s certification level which when granted validates at least some minimum experience and ordinarily this may be sufficient.

A certification level does not automatically infer capability. Obviously it is intended as a credential but may well be over ridden if it is obvious that conduct is below the standard matching the stated level.

LOADS OF DIVES?

Divers often state experience in terms of time- I have been diving for 8 years- This may mean many hundreds of dives or several trips on holiday with a total of 20-30 dives.

It is not our intention to offend divers with genuine experience however some divers declare their experience in a non useful way making the provision of service inappropriate without further validation. This can be verbal or written.

CERTIFICATION CARDSWreck diving

Ideally a certification level card will be presented which will be sufficient for the service requested or in some circumstances a stated certification level may be accepted.

The diver is usually required to sign that the level stated is correct. This is on the vessel and where appropriate may include a declaration of competence.

Some qualifications may require experiential dives as a part of their use.

Regardless of qualification Puffin Dive Centre reserve the right to exclude a diver from activities at any point during the activity should it become apparent that the actions of the diver are below a standard required.
